The Revolution of the Television in the late 1950's would create a social change, changing the ways we would do things and our attitudes as well. Within a decade of the arrival of the Television in Australia, it would become the new way of life. During this time, the TV antenna was a status symbol, making people wanting to buy them. The selling and installing antennas created a boom in the industry.
Many during this time, many that didn't have access to a television would drive a couple times a week to a friend's house in which they would know had a TV in order to watch their favorite television show. However, the Television would create a change in many of the family traditions. For example, before the existence of television many would go and help their parents with setting up the table and the whole family would sit together. But with the new television, many are anxious to be watching TV.
Televisions also created a decline for the cinemas. Once, the theaters would always be full but with the new invention of the television, the theaters would now be empty and hardly people coming to them because they had their television which allowed them to watch their favorite shows from home.
The revolution of the television would forever change the ways in which we would get out information, and as a form for personal entertainment. Again, it is really important to understand how television did more than change the face of entertainment. I personally believe that the main role of television was to influence public opinion by means of media. Broadcasting of elections changed the face of politics forever because now, candidates had to worry about their physical presentation more than ever. In addition, this increased the power of the press in that they could access a larger audience with the same message.
