Even though women weren't technically allowed to be part of any country's army at the time of WWI, they were still heavily used as spies. An article by About Education states that, "There is extensive documentation of the role of women undercover and otherwise involved in intelligence work in the two world wars and some very interesting characters emerge from those two conflicts." The article talks about specific spies such as Edith Cavell, a British spy, and Virginia Hall, a U.S. spy.
